General & Family Dentistry
Routine cleanings, exams, and preventive care for every age, from first tooth to forever smile.
General dentistry is the foundation of every healthy mouth, and the foundation of how we practice. From your child's first checkup to a thoughtful exam for a parent with decades of dental history, our goal is the same: catch problems early, prevent the ones we can, and make every visit comfortable.
What general dentistry includes
Routine cleanings (prophylaxis), comprehensive exams, digital X-rays, oral cancer screening, fluoride treatment, sealants for kids, periodontal evaluations, and treatment of cavities through tooth-colored composite fillings. We also screen for grinding, TMJ issues, and early signs of gum disease at every visit.
How often should you come in?
Most patients do well with a cleaning and exam every six months. Patients with periodontal disease, diabetes, or other risk factors benefit from three- or four-month visits. Dr. Campbell will set a schedule that fits your specific mouth, not a generic insurance schedule.
Care for the whole family
We see patients of every age. Kids as young as two or three for their first ride in the chair. Teens through their orthodontic years. Adults across every stage of life. Seniors who want to keep their teeth, or replace them well.
Common Questions
Frequently asked
How often should I see the dentist for a checkup?
Most patients do well with a cleaning and exam every six months. If you have gum disease, diabetes, or other risk factors, Dr. Campbell may recommend visits every three or four months to keep your mouth healthy.
What does a routine dental visit include?
A routine visit covers a professional cleaning, a comprehensive exam, digital X-rays when needed, an oral cancer screening, and a review of any concerns. We also check for early decay, gum disease, grinding, and bite problems.
At what age should my child first see a dentist?
The first visit should happen by age one or within six months of the first tooth. Early visits build comfort, catch problems soon, and let us coach you on caring for your child at home.
Do you accept dental insurance and patients without it?
Yes. We accept most major dental insurance and file claims for you. If you do not have insurance, our Virginia Dental Club membership covers preventive care plus 20 percent off most additional treatments for one annual fee.
What if I have not been to the dentist in years?
That is completely okay, and more common than you think. We start with a gentle exam, listen to your concerns, and build a comfortable plan at your pace. No lectures, no judgment, just a fresh start.
